If you are heading to South Africa for the holiday of a lifetime then you are in for a spectacular treat. In fact, you are in for many treats, and plenty of wonderful experiences. South Africa has so much to offer in terms of destinations (coastal to inland, metropolitan to rural), attractions (beaches, game reserves, cultural pursuits, shopping) and more.
From the cold Atlantic Ocean on the west coast to the warmer Pacific on the east coast, South Africa has more than 2 500 kilometres of coastline, stretching from the arid Kalahari in the north-west all the way to the lush St Lucia estuary in the east.
The beaches are generally very safe for swimming and 18 of our beaches have been awarded international Blue Flag status for excelling in safety, cleanliness, the provision of amenities and setting and maintaining environmental standards. Just 3 of SA’s must-visit beaches include Cape Town’s Camps Bay , Port Elizabeth’s Kings Beach and Durban’s South Beach . Make sure you pack your suntan cream as the sunshine hours are plentiful here.
Does wine tasting sound appealing? South Africa is home to a host of internationally acclaimed wines, and magnificent, historically wealthy wine estates. There are a variety of wine regions across the country, with the majority of them within easy access of Cape Town. If you find yourself wanting to taste more than just the wines then the wine region also caters for the hungry, with a load of excellent restaurants and coffee shops catering to everyone’s palate preferences. There are superb accommodation options if you intend staying for longer than just a day.
Heading north into the interior of South Africa a few places, amongst many, that are worth a visit include: The Augrabies Falls and the spectacular granite gorge that is its home. There is the Richtersveld Transfrontier Park which the home to magnificent desert mountain ranges and indigenous vegetation. The Drakensberg mountain range in the northeast is the perfect place for those who would like to ‘get away from it all’. The peace and tranquility of this area is hard to beat anywhere in the world. There are a multitude of guest houses, lodges, hotels , B&Bs, and even camp sites, from which to launch your explorations. There are hundreds of walking trails that are clearly marked out so rambling is a must.
Back to the cities, and Shopping! If you are traveling on the Euro, the GB Pound or the US Dollar then South Africa will be a shopping paradise. From informal traders’ markets - such as Green Market Square in Cape Town, where you can negotiate the price of authentic African mementos to take home with you - to shopping malls of international standards - such as Nelson Mandela Square in Johannesburg – you will be spoilt for choice.
There are so many things to do, and so many places to see, that you would have to spend almost a life time here to see and do them all – we look forward to welcoming you back, again and again.
